Eye

With hours of dedication and thousands of pencil strokes, the beauty and complexity of a simple eye stares into your own and has for you a question.

What do you see?

Life of Mullein

Mullein is a simple plant, it lives in two years cycles and follows humans everywhere we go. Its invasive and ugly but its here just like everyone else. It doesn’t care, even if we do. Its going to be here tomorrow, even if we don’t want it to be. sometimes I feel like a strain on my environment. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be here. But that doesn’t matter, If this ugly plant is going to be here tomorrow, so will I. And so should You.

In the simple act of scrolling through an app one can find an endless verity of beauty. In that same simple act of scrolling, that beauty is instantly gone. like, save, share are but a few options anyone has in how they choose to interact with what could be hours or even a lifetime of cultivating beauty. Though most that view simply scroll, beautiful content is made to be engaged with much further. While one could dismiss this beautiful young woman without hesitation, others may derive a sense of admiration, inspiration, or obsession and investigate such easy to dismiss content further. What then? Obviously my personal answer was to pour over and recreate the beauty I saw in my own way. Others have their own ways of interacting with beautiful content, be it donations, subscriptions, or the humble like and comment, everyone is different.

So let me ask you dear reader, you’ve made it this far, how else do you choose to interact with what you may find beautiful here?

Death of Mullein

If life is ugly then death is disgusting. This invasive plant spreads hundreds of seeds as it decays. For even death has consequences that ripple through time and environments. resources and nutrients are stolen from the soil to repeat an unsustainable cycle. For us, lifetimes of shared memories are lost. Future plans are put to an end. Love can only be felt by who’s left. Life is temporary, while death is forever, but the impact of both can never be undone.

Portrait

As you gaze into this portrait, its subject stares right back at you. If you know him, what you know of him will fundamentally alter this portrait.

His detractors may see a series of contradictions and lies. A rich socialist, a propagandist with an agenda, a radical terrorist sympathizer that donates to charity. Those with this perspective may view my portrait and feel a mix of emotions: confusion, anger, and hatred are a few I could imagine. If made to consider its implications or meaning, I’d assume someone with this perspective would see my work as sycophantic fan art. A grift within a grift. Above all, his detractors may see this as a grave moral evil staring them in the face with the same lack of emotion and respect with which they behold this very portrait. These folks are not likely to engage positively with this portrait and its associated online presence. That is, if they chose to engage with it at all.

I don’t care much about any of this… death threats are uncool, but whatever I guess. I sure don’t care about debunking, refuting, or arguing with this perspective. Not here not now, if you dear reader share the aforementioned perspective, all I really have to say to you is that your ignorance is not my fault. If you want to know why you’re wrong try reading a book, if you don’t want to read a book, then why are you reading this? Go away or something, thanks.

If you ask me what this is about, I’d say it’s about simple and relatable humanity. I’d tell you its about a man that, as far as I can tell, cares about humanity. It’s about someone with a large but unfortunately obscure voice. A voice used not exclusively to increase his personal wealth, but to express the depths of humanity that still exist in a world facing mass extinction systemic, oppression, and a myriad of other existential issues in society.
